Paignton a short distance away offers long sandy beaches colourful atmosphere paddler-friendly waters and many attractions including Paignton Zoo Quaywest Waterpark and the Paignton to Dartmouth Steam Railway. The accommodation offers TWO bedrooms: 1 double and 1 twin both with TVs. Bathroom: with shower over bath and WC. Lounge: with electric fire TV Freeview DVD video with both films and music radio and a further dining room table. Sun room with seating is off the kitchen and lounge with french doors leading to the patio. Kitchen: with gas cooker microwave dishwasher fridge/freezer and washing machine. Outside: private enclosed patio area secure for children and pets. Amenities: off-road parking for 1 small car but roadside parking is available. Bed linen towels wi-fi electric and timed central heating included. Up to 3 dogs welcome (dog equipment supplied). Additional info: regret no children under the age of 10 years old. Perhaps the most well known resort on South Devon’s ‘English Riviera’, Torquay has long been popular with visitors attracted by the temperate climate of the region. The town’s name originates from the quay of the village of Torre.
One of the larger towns in Devon, Torquay, combined with its Torbay neighbours such as Paignton and Brixham attracts up to 200,000 visitors during the summer months. The fishing industry was originally the town’s main source of income, but it developed into a very popular and fashionable seaside resort during the 19th century.
Probably Torquay’s most famous inhabitant was the well known novelist Agatha Christie who spent much of her life here, but it is also notable as being the setting for the TV comedy series ‘Fawlty Towers’, set in a fictitious Torquay hotel.
As well as many shops, the harbour and seafront, Torquay also has several tourist attractions including Kents Cavern, Babbacombe Model Village and the Living Coasts arm of Paignton Zoo.
Torquay has excellent transport facilities including two railway stations, and good road and bus access connecting it to main routes throughout the South West. With a wide range of accommodation available, including hotels, guest-houses, B&Bs and self-catering, there is something to suit everyone.
